WHO IS BEHIND THIS?
I’m Doniel Berry — pianist, composer, and improviser.
I’ve spent years blending jazz language, Jewish musical roots, and deep improvisational exploration into a sound that’s both deeply traditional and completely my own. Along the way, I’ve learned that freedom in music isn’t about throwing out the rules — it’s about knowing them so well you can play beyond them.
Rov Zimra is the resource I wish existed decades ago when I was still trying to find my voice — a space to go deeper, ask questions, experiment, and grow with a community of people who care about the same things.

FAQ
Can I join even if I don't play piano at all?
Absolutely. While there will be some chord discussion unique to polyphonic instruments (piano, guitar, etc) – most of what we cover applies to any instrument — theory, modes, rhythm, and improvisational approaches.
What if I want to cancel later?
You can cancel anytime from the members' portal — no hard feelings – and your membership will last through the current billing cycle. That said, you will lose access to the Founding Member rate and if you rejoin later it will be at the full price.
Do I need to be a professional musician?
No! You just need enough skill on your instrument to follow along and explore. Rov Zimra is for anyone from passionate hobbyists to working pros.
Will the content be based specifically on Jewish music?
Yes — and also widely applicable. While the musical concepts and methodology are universal, we use Jewish music (in the broadest sense) as our creative playground. Think: exploring modes, motifs, and rhythms through a culturally rooted lens — but in a way that can expand your playing in any style.
